Kissimmee, Fla. -- The fifth-ranked Bombers improved to 4-1 on the season after defeating #4 Muskingum, 5-1. Sophomore Nicole Cade (Beaverton/Portland, Ore.) held the Muskies to just five hits as Ithaca rallied in the top of the seventh to plate five runs and secure the win.
The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the sixth when Muskingum took a 1-0 lead. Ithaca responded in the top of the seventh as 11 batters went to the plate, scoring five runs off four hits.
Sophomore Erica Cutspec (Fort Plain/Fort Plain) singled to score junior Jen Marro (Bethlehem Central/Delmar), who entered the game as a pinch runner after senior Amanda Illinger (Norwich Free Academy/Hanover, Conn.) singled to lead off the inning, to tie the game at 1-1. With the bases loaded and two outs, sophomore Amanda Kowalsick (Riverhead/Jamesport) singled to score junior Hannah Shalett (Shepaug Valley/Bridgewater, Conn.) with the game-winning run.
A walk to sophomore Stacy Pelesz (Hudson/Livingston), a single from sophomore Jessica Stangarone (Brewster/Brewster) and a Muskies error plated three more runs as Ithaca took a four-run lead into the bottom half of the inning. Cade then retired three of the four batters she faced in the bottom of the seventh to register her second win of the season.
Stangarone was 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. Cade allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts in recording the win.
The Bombers will next play Muhlenberg at 10:40 a.m.
